Walkthrough Astro’s Playroom Guide
This is a great game to play with the family, not only 68lottery as a demo of the new controller but as a game that will hold your attention for a considerable time. Also, because of the different skills required, you may find a wider audience of players than usual platform games. In the game, you control your little character as he jumps, dodges and explores his way around the levels. Unlike other platform games, this has a trick up its sleeve in the form of the DualSense controller’s ability to let you feel your way around levels. A number of special bots were added to Astro’s Playroom in the months leading up to the release of Astro Bot. Astro’s Playroom first launched in 2020 as a pre-installed PS5 exclusive that highlighted the DualSense controller’s features.
Click on the Artefact’s name for a more detailed explanation, or click on the level’s name for a full guide to all the collectibles in that area. Collecting all the Artefacts in Astro’s Playroom will unlock the Dude Raider Trophy. Please note that you will also collect some Artefacts after beating the final boss in the game. On that platform, there will be a small jutting rockface on its left, which when walked on, will reveal the Special Bot. This one references the PS5 game Returnal, and gives you the hint using an image of an astronaut.

Move along it until you reach the tiny astronaut on it, then purposefully die while standing on it to respawn back by the checkpoint and free the Special Bot. This Special Bot is on the third section of the stage, Deep Dataspace. When arriving at the location, play as normal until just before the fourth checkpoint where you can yank a gun out of the ground in a small elevated platform to the left. Astro Bot is a 2024 platform game developed by Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5 to coincide with PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. Following Astro’s Playroom (2020), it is the fifth overall installment in the Astro Bot series and marks Team Asobi’s first game developed since its separation from Japan Studio. As someone that has owned and loved every single PlayStation console from the PS1 to the PS Vita and PS4, it was an absolute treat to play Astro’s Playroom.

Puzzle Piece 2/4 – After the second red button where you then jump up the two metal sloped platforms, this puzzle piece is in the top left corner of the area before hitting the third red button. You’ll have to jump back to the left to it from the wooden platform on the right. It’s a wonderful celebration of PlayStation’s history but the absolute best moment is the final boss battle which is so perfectly handled we almost died of nostalgia playing it.
Games Review
Since Memory Cards were sold separately, many PlayStation 1 games (like Crash Bandicoot) offered a password system that allowed you to return to where you left off with all your progress. Sony would later release a USB adapter to connect PS1 and PS2 Memory Cards to a PlayStation 3, even PS3s that couldn’t play those games. The PlayStation Memory Card acted as an interim between on-board cartridge memory and storing saves on a console’s internal storage (which the PlayStation lacked, outside of the RAM). Holding a whopping 1 MB of storage divided into 15 blocks, these allowed saves to be copied, backed up and shared among friends independent of the games and consoles.
There is no way to turn the touchpad controls off, nor is there an alternate control method. I handed the controller to my sister asking her to do the area for me, with the expectation this would be a one-off. Past games are also celebrated in fine style thanks to the little skits that are always going on in the background, often involving other bots playing the role of famous game characters. You also ping Astro into action with a flick of the touchpad and zip up his various special suits by running your finger upwards. Astro’s Playroom is not that game, as it’s quite short and still at least 50% tech demo, but since so few will ever get to play Rescue Mission it’s an important step towards that goal. It’s also free with every new PlayStation 5, so it’s the one game that you can almost guarantee everyone will play – and it gives a very good first impression.
Finally, the controller also has a built-in microphone so that it can be used for game and party chats. Codenamed Project Neo, the PlayStation 4 was the first mid-generation hardware revision that added significant amounts of power compared to earlier models. It used custom hardware that supported streamlined rendering techniques for better performance, or increased resolutions via checkerboard rendering. Curiously, playback of Ultra-HD Blu-Rays would not appear until the PlayStation 5.
From seeing bot versions of iconic characters (like Kratos and Solid Snake) to gathering old peripherals and consoles, the journey is full of “I recognize that! ” flashes that punctuate the lighthearted and approachable gameplay. Head up to where the checkpoint is, and on the raised platform behind the pink plant is a small outcropping. Stand here and look out to space, and the special bot will appear.

I can’t say I had very high expectations for Astro’s Playroom, a game that comes free with every PlayStation 5 console. I figured it might be a cute series of minigames, akin to the robot-themed minigames in the PlayStation 4’s pack-in title, The Playroom. That PS4 game was the sort of thing you boot up once, mess around with for 30 minutes, and then forget it exists. A DLC game in which the player controls a ninja AR Bot, evading traps and firing shuriken.
